By using this site you agree to these terms. They're written in plain English on purpose. Last updated 13 June 2026.
These terms of use govern your access to the Armed Forces Pension Calculator website and the calculators, guides and reference pages on it. We are an independent education site. We are notaffiliated with the Ministry of Defence, Veterans UK or JPAC, and we do not act for them. Throughout these terms, "we", "us" and "our" mean the Armed Forces Pension Calculator, and "you" means anyone who visits the site or uses a tool on it. By browsing the site, entering numbers into a calculator, or relying on anything you read here, you confirm that you accept these terms in full. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site.
We have written these terms in plain English so that a serving soldier, sailor or aviator reading on a phone in a few spare minutes can actually follow them. Plain language does not make them any less binding. Where a term touches on something legal, such as liability or governing law, we have kept the wording precise on purpose.
Everything on Armed Forces Pension Calculator is provided for general information and education. Our calculators produce estimates based on published scheme formulas and publicly available factors. They make simplifying assumptions and cannot account for the full detail of your service record, breaks in service, transfers, divorce, ill-health or McCloud remedy choices. Your actual benefits are determined by the scheme rules and your verified record, not by our figures.
Each of the three schemes works differently, and the estimate reflects the rules of the scheme you choose. AFPS 75 is a final-salary scheme paying up to 48.5 per cent of final pay with an automatic tax-free lump sum of three times the pension and a normal pension age of 60. AFPS 05 is also final salary, building at 1/70th of final pay each year up to about 57 per cent, again with an automatic three times lump sum, an Early Departure Payment, and a normal pension age of 65. AFPS 15 is a career-average (CARE) scheme that banks 1/47th of your pensionable pay each year and revalues it for inflation, has no automatic lump sum but lets you commute up to 25 per cent at roughly £12 of lump sum per £1 of pension given up, and has a normal pension age equal to your State Pension age. Our tools apply the right formula for the scheme you select, but the output is still an estimate, not a statement of entitlement.
Not financial advice. Nothing on this site is regulated financial, tax or legal advice. For an official figure, contact Veterans UK; for advice on your own situation, speak to a regulated financial adviser. See our full disclaimer.
The following example is illustrative and uses round numbers to show how an estimate is built, not to predict your pension. Suppose an other-ranks member under AFPS 15 has a single year of pensionable pay of £30,000. For that year the scheme banks 1/47th of £30,000, which is about £638 of pension. That amount is then revalued each year until the pension comes into payment, and the same step repeats for every year of service, so the bank grows year on year. A calculator can show this clearly, but it has to assume your pay, your future service and the revaluation rate. Change any one of those and the figure moves. That is exactly why the terms describe the output as an estimate: the walk-through is sound, yet it can only ever be as accurate as the inputs and assumptions behind it.
You are welcome to use the calculators and guides as often as you like for your own planning, and to share links with colleagues and family. In return, we ask you to use the site fairly and lawfully. The points below set out what acceptable use means in practice.
Please don't use the site in a way that disrupts it, attempts to break its security, or misrepresents our estimates as official or as advice. We may update or withdraw any part of the site at any time without notice. If you break these terms, we may restrict or withdraw your access without warning, and nothing we do or fail to do in any one case waives our right to act in another.
This is the single most important basis on which the site is offered, so it is worth stating in full. We are an independent education service. We give estimates to help you understand your Armed Forces pension and the choices around it. We do not give regulated financial advice, we are not authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority, and we do not hold any official or delegated status from the MOD, Veterans UK or JPAC. Reading our guides or running a calculation does not create an adviser relationship between us, and you should not treat any output as a personal recommendation.
An estimate is the start of a conversation, not the end of one. Where money, tax or timing genuinely turns on a decision, such as whether to commute part of your pension, when to take an Early Departure Payment, or how a transfer would land, take regulated advice and confirm the numbers against your own record. For a binding figure, ask Veterans UK for an official forecast: form 12 if you are still serving and form 14 if your pension is preserved. To see how we build the maths, read how we calculate, and for the full caveats read our disclaimer.
We put real effort into keeping the calculators and guides correct and current. We rebuild the maths from the published scheme rules and the official factors, and we update figures as new guidance lands. For example, pensions in payment rise by 3.8 per cent from April 2026 in line with CPI, after rises of 6.7 per cent in 2024 and 1.7 per cent in 2025, and we reflect changes like these when they take effect. Even so, the site is provided "as is" and "as available", and we make no warranty, express or implied, that it is free of errors, always up to date, uninterrupted, or fit for any particular purpose.
Factors and rules change, our sources can contain mistakes, and a calculation that was correct last year can shift when new factors are issued. We therefore cannot promise that any figure is accurate at the moment you read it. If you spot something that looks wrong, please tell us through the contact page so we can check it against the official guidance and put it right. You can also review the references we rely on in our sources.
We work hard to keep our calculations and guides accurate and up to date, but we make no warranty that they are error-free or current at all times. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we accept no liability for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, this site or its estimates. You use the site and act on its output at your own risk, and you should always confirm important figures with Veterans UK or a regulated adviser before making a decision.
In particular, and again to the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, for any loss of pension benefit, savings, income, opportunity or anticipated saving, or for any loss arising because you relied on an estimate instead of an official forecast. This applies however the loss arises, whether in contract, in negligence or otherwise.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes any liability that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded. That includes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, and any other liability that the law does not allow us to exclude. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

If you would like to reproduce more than a short, credited extract, for example in a unit welfare brief, a resettlement pack or a training resource, please ask first through the contact page. We link to outside websites, including official ones such as Veterans UK and government guidance, because they are genuinely useful. Those links are provided for convenience and do not mean we endorse, control or take responsibility for the linked site, its content, or its accuracy. Once you leave our site, the terms and privacy policy of the site you land on apply, not ours, so it is worth checking them.

You must not frame our pages on another site or present them so as to remove our identity or branding. We may ask you to remove any link that breaches these conditions, and you agree to do so promptly.
We may revise these terms from time to time. The version published here is the one that applies, and the "last updated" date above tells you when it last changed. Continued use of the site means you accept the current terms.
We may also change, suspend or withdraw any part of the site, including any calculator or guide, at any time and without notice. We do this to keep the tools correct and the figures current, and we are not liable to you if a feature is unavailable for any period. Where a change is significant and affects how you may use the site, we will try to make that clear on the relevant page.
These terms, and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them or your use of the site, are governed by and construed in accordance with the law of England and Wales. You and we agree that the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction to settle any such dispute or claim.
If you are a consumer resident in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you keep the benefit of any mandatory consumer protections that apply in your home nation, and nothing here removes those rights. If any provision of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest of the terms remain in force.
If you have a question about these terms, want to ask about reproducing our content, or think a figure is wrong, please get in touch through our contact page. To understand how we handle any information you send, see our privacy policy.
Need a figure you can rely on? Our estimates are a useful starting point, but only Veterans UK can give an official forecast. Request form 12 if you are serving or form 14 if your pension is preserved, then sanity-check it against our calculators.
